  2. -go Verbs • There is a small but very important group of verbs that we call the “-go” verbs. These verbs are: • Caer to fall • Hacer: to make/do • Poner: to put • Salir: to leave • Tener: to have • Traer: to bring • Venir: to come

  3. Why are these grouped together?? • Good question! • Do you remember why the yo form is special?

  4. Correcto! • yo tengo: the yo form ends in –go. • So what do you think the yo form of venir is?

  5. On the “go” • yo vengo • How about the yo forms for: • Salir • Poner

  6. “Go” for it! • yo salgo • yo pongo

  7. Wait! There’s more! • There are a few other changes: • hacer > yo hago • traer > yo traigo • caer> yo caigo

  8. Let’s look at those “yo” forms again… • Caer: yo caigo • Hacer: yo hago • Poner: yo pongo • Salir: yo salgo • Tener: yo tengo • Traer: yo traigo • Venir: yo vengo

  9. What about those other forms?? • They are regular!! • For example: hacer • yo hago • tú haces • él hace • nosotros hacemos • ellos hacen

  10. One more for the road… > salir • yo ______ • tú ______ • él ______ • nosotros ______ • ellos ______

  12. Venir • VENIR changes its stem, just like TENER: • yo vengo • tú vienes • él,ella Ud. viene • nosotros venimos • ellos, ellas, Uds. vienen

  13. What about “saber”? • Good question! It’s very irregular: • saber > yo sé • Notice the accent on sé

  14. Let’s take a look! > saber • yo ______ • tú ______ • él ______ • nosotros ______ • ellos ______

  15. Saber • yo sé • tú sabes • él sabe • nosotros sabemos • ellos saben • Saber is included in this group because only the “yo” form is irregular in the present.

  16. Here’s a second helping! > conocer • yo ______ • tú ______ • él ______ • nosotros ______ • ellos ______

  17. Conocer • yo conozco • tú conoces • él conoce • nosotros conocemos • ellos conocen

  18. How about if we mix up the forms? • Yo _______ (conocer) a mucha gente de Nicaragua, pero mi hermano ________ (conocer) a más personas de Honduras.

  19. Conocer • Yo conozco a mucha gente de Nicaragua, pero mi hermano conoce a más personas de Honduras.

  20. Una Mezcla (a mixture) • Cuando yo _______ (tener) tiempo, _______ (salir) al parque. Si _______ (venir) unos amigos, _______ (hacer) algo diferente.

  21. Una Mezcla • Cuando yo tengo tiempo, salgo al parque. Si vienen unos amigos, hacemos algo diferente. • Notice how the subjects change in this sentence!

  22. In conclusion… • The –go verbs have an irregular yo form: conozco, hago, pongo, salgo, sé, tengo, traigo vengo • The other forms are regular according to their conjugations.
