Mrs. Hannah Smith About Mrs. Smith: • I graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. • I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school!  • My husband, Caleb, is also a teacher. • I have a two cats, Simon and Sophie, who are too spoiled.

Our Schedule 8:30-8:40 Town Hall Meeting 8:40-9:25 Learning Launch 9:25-9:45 Snack/ Wordwall 9:45-10:20 Specials 10:20-11:20 Guided Reading/Literacy Stations 11:30-11:55 Whole Group Reading/Writing 12:00-12:25 Lunch 12:35-1:25 Calendar/Math Lesson 1:25-1:45 Math Stations 1:45-2:15 Recess 2:25-2:45 Phonics 2:45-3:00 Pack Up/Classroom Jobs

  4. Classroom Norms • I will be trustworthy and truthful. • I will be caring, responsible, and respectful. (No put downs) • I will use active listening and follow directions. • I will give my personal best!

  5. Admin Notes • Please only send in store bought goods • Nothing homemade • Make sure ingredients label is clearly visible for students who may have food allergies • New Parent table location in cafeteria • On the stage for a special treat for the students

Admin Note (cont.) • Transportation changes • In the form of a signed, dated note • The day of or day before the change is needed • No emails or faxes accepted • All other changes must be given in person to office staff prior to 1:45 pm • This is for the child’s safety and to verify the identity of the person making the change • In the event of an emergency, contact administration to get approval for a change

Use it in the real world Think fast AND solve problems • Read as much non fiction as fiction • Learn about the world by reading • Read more challenging material closely • Discuss reading using evidence • Write non-fiction using evidence • Increase academic vocabulary

ELA/ Literacy • Small Group Guided Reading • Concentration on building independent reading and writing habits, phonics skills, and reading comprehension. • Whole Group Reading (Extended Read) • More rigorous texts read out loud by teacher build vocabulary and comprehension skills • Emphasis on the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts

  11. Writing • Cross-Curricular: writing in ALL subject areas • Write to respond to literature • Deeper connections to text • Deeper understanding of concepts • Three Genres working on this year: • Narrative • Informational • Opinion (Persuasive)

Learning Launch • Every Tuesday through Friday • Students grouped by ability to practice needed first grade skills based on given common assessment • Extend for students who have met the standard • Remediate for students who need more support • EIP and Horizons served during this time • EIP also served at other times throughout the day • Your child will work with other teachers during this time

  32. Accelerated Reader • Students will pick a book according to their level. • Books may be read at school and at home. • When students are ready, they will be able to take the AR test at school.

Homework • Quarterly homework page sent home with needed skills for each quarter. • Students complete work in a spiral bound homework notebook. • Parents check homework and send back each Friday (I will check the notebook each Friday) • Opportunities for extension • High-frequency, Dolchwords, and spelling words to be studied as needed • Nightly reading-15 to 20 minutes
