1. Listening for stressed syllables and prefixes • Workbook page 175 • Listen to the word the teacher says • Listen for the stressed syllable and underline it • Circle the prefix in each word.

5.Listening and reading comprehension • Please turn to page C52- “The Disappearing Man” • When you read a mystery, you can search for clues that help explain the puzzle in the mystery • Directions: • Read lines 35-133 independently • Consider the following question as you read: How did Larry figure out who the thief was? • Underline information that offers clues to the identity of the thief • Paraphrase (put into your own words) the information in the spaces provided

6. Spotlight on Plot • Break up into groups • One person will be the scribe, or notetaker • After reading the story • Discuss the clues from Step 5 (pg C53) and explain how Larry used the clues to identify the thief. • Work to make a good list of the clues • Discuss how they want to present their ideas to the class • Present to the class your list of clues
