2. Review: Doubling Rule • The final consonant letter doubles • When a suffix that starts with a vowel is added to a word that fits the 1-1-1 rule • (one syllable, one vowel, one consonant at the end) • Examples: • Stop + ed = Stopped • Stop + ing = Stopping • Hop + ing = Hopping
2. Intro: Advanced Doubling It • Double the final consonant when adding an ending that begins with a vowel if… • The word has more than one syllable • The final syllable is stressed • Has one vowel followed by one consonant • Examples: • Begin + ing = Beginning

Advanced Double It • Workbook page 177 • Read each word and suffix on the chart • Complete the chart for each word • Determine: • Is there one vowel in the final syllable of the word? • Is there one consonant at the end of the word? • Is the final syllable stressed? • If the answer is yes to the questions above: • Double the final consonant • Re-write the whole word in the last column
