What is the Central Equipment Pool for High Technology Wheelchairs (CEP)? (Section 6) • CEP provides ADP clients throughout Ontario with high quality new and recycled power wheelchairs with power tilt/recline units at discounted prices and provides a rebate on the client's costs once the equipment is returned to the pool. • For the purpose of ADP funding assistance, a high technology wheelchair is defined as a power wheelchair and/or power base that includes a power dynamic positioning device – tilt and/or recline – as a component • In addition to the opportunity to purchase recycled equipment, a consistent level of service to ADP clients across the province has been established by consolidating all high-technology services in one responsibility centre.

Recycling • Bases and power dynamic positioning devices only are recycled • Only items in good condition are considered for recycling • Recycled items are refurbished—staff take pride in ensuring they look and operate like new • Carry the same 3 year warranty as new components • Typically these components are less expensive than new components • If 3rd party funding is an issue, recycled equipment can also be specifically funded. CEP will work with the authorizer to provide options where possible.

Accessing CEP • The local CEP representative is the primary point of contact for the client and authorizer. • The client, Authorizer and CEP representative work together to determine the specifications for the CEP chair • Detailed/accurate and complete the requests result in faster turn around times, and accurate builds • Common pitfalls include • Omitting key measurements (e.g. depth) • CEP reviews the request and determines whether the required items are in stock. Requests are filled with recycled equipment first
Accessing CEP (continued) • Typically a trial of the equipment occurs to determine the final prescription • The chair is returned to CEP while awaiting funding • The chair the client had on trial is dispensed to the client once funding has been received • As per ADP policy, the authorizer is responsible to follow up
Continuous Quality Improvement • Standard CQI check list • All chairs go through a CQI process before they leave CEP • High quality • 100% match to rep order • Need to QC at all steps
