  2. Animal Feeding Operations • DNR requests an exception from standard IOWAccess process • DNR is responsible for staffing and funding of “Requirements Phase” using $50,000 FY08 legislative appropriation • DNR will seek IOWAccess funding for Development in February 2008

Animal Feeding Operations Program Background • 8261 Facilities tracked as of Nov. 6, 2007 • Currently 112 users: • Field Staff • Permit Writers/Engineers • Geologists & GIS specialists • Supervisors & Administrators • NO PUBLIC ACCESS • Challenges • Patchwork design • Evolving regulations • Advances in mapping technology • Watershed-based environmental programs

  4. Animal Feeding Operations Objectives of Refreshed Database • Public access • Improved internal communication and coordination • Accurate mapped locations • Availability of electronic records • Improve flexibility and ease of maintenance • Improve program efficiency and effectiveness

Animal Feeding Operations Timeline • Project Initiation and Planning – completed • High-level estimate of 584 hours for Requirements and 1400 hours for Development, Testing, and Deployment • Requirements - to be completed February 2008 • Defined using DNR’s new Software Development Standards • Refine high-level estimate for Development and Implementation • Receive IOWAccess funding approval – Feb 2008 • Development and testing – to be implemented Dec 2008
