Migrate To Java 11 ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES Corporation • JTLS-GO Currently Uses Java 8 • Since Its Release Four Years Ago • Java 9 was released in 2017 with immediate plan for being superseded by Java 10 • Java 10 was released in March 2018 with immediate plan for being superseded by Java 11. • Java 11 was released in September 2018, but like Java 8 is planned to be a long-term support version.

  3. Migrate To Java 11 ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES Corporation • Java 8 Expected Life Cycle – End Support • January 2019 for Oracle (commercial) • This is why we moved to OpenJDK • At least September 2023 for AdoptOpenJDK • We Now Need To Plan For Upgrade • Major Effort

  4. Migrate To Java 11 ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES Corporation • JTLS User Interface Currently Uses • Swing Library For All Graphical User Interface (GUI) • Swing Library Is Not Supported in Java 11 • Means All JTLS GUI Processes Need To Transition • JavaMenu • ICP • WHIP / DDSC

  5. Migrate To Java 11 ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES Corporation • Java 11 Does Not Support JNLP Files • We Use JNLP Files and Java Web Start (IcedTea) To Distribute WHIP and DDSC To Client Machines • This Is A Huge Issue • Bottom Line: This Is The Next Major O&M Task

Force Management Service Interface (ORION) ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES Corporation • ORION Is New Database Available To US DoD • ORION provides a single source of information (via data aggregation and connectivity to more than 26 authoritative data sources). • ORION provides a common operational view of forces in motion, unit-level attributes to inform decision making, and capabilities to perform Course of Action (COA) analysis in real time.
