  4. Truck Stop Electrification • Allows truck drivers ability to heat/cool cabs when stopped without running their engines • Emissions reductions, noise benefits, cost effective • IdleAire rolling out system across country • Other shorepower alternatives

  6. Truck Stop Electrification- El Paso • 250 IdleAire Spaces • $2.5 million • County took lead • FHWA worked with county on contract language (public private partnership agreement) • Eligibility issues worked out with FHWA and EPA headquarters offices

  7. Truck Stop Electrification- Beaumont • Area in conformity lapse • Need to pass build/no build test • Limited options in small metro area • EPA guidance on emissions reductions • 135 g/hr valid 2002 through 2030 • Capped at 3.4% of NOx HDDV8a and 8b

  10. Clean Vehicles Program - Houston • Approx. $50 million STP and CMAQ • CMAQ pays for engine replacement cost • Mostly accelerated retirement • Some clean fuels • Public school systems, Houston Metro, and private fleets • 1.97 tons/day current projects ($36.75 million CMAQ)

Clean Vehicles Program - Houston Silver Eagle Distributors (Budwiser) • 1st Contract 26 trucks • 3 gram NOx engines plus PM filters (’96-’03 engine standard was 4 gram NOx) • $357,00 CMAQ • .024 tons/day NOx reductions • 2nd Contract 69 trucks • 2.5 gram NOx engines (‘04 standard) • $2.08 million CMAQ • .039 tons/day NOx reductions

  13. Clean Vehicles Program - Houston HEB (Texas Grocery Chain) • 42 Duel Fuel Conversions from Diesel • 80% LNG (uses most of the time) • 20% Diesel (for start up) • LNG Fueling Station Upgrade • $1.77 million CMAQ, matched with TERP • .104 tons/day NOx

  14. Clean Vehicles Program - Houston • Educate truck dealers about the program - they market it to individual fleets • Issues: • Aiming for 2007 emissions reductions. How much longer can they do these contracts? • Ensuring vehicle retirements are accelerated • FHWA approves program as a whole, not each project
