WNY Group Operations • June Hours - 15.7 • July Hours - 44.5 Hours - due to Flight academy • August Hours - 12.3 • N222NY has approx 15.3 hours till a 100hr/annual inspection. This will probably happen sometime in Oct. At the current rate, it will be out of service for approx 1 week or longer. • Currently only 1 of approx 3 flying aircraft in NY Wing. Garmin 1000 aircraft having some technical issues. • WNY Group is down to 2 pilots. Only 1 MP. • Working on getting pilots current and completed form 5's • Should have one of our Check Pilots G Barnhard back online end of Sept or early Oct. • There was a training exercise this past weekend.

SEP SAREX – 13-14 SEP at Akron airport. Report pending completion of event Upcoming Training Events – NYW has released a tentative schedule for FY 15. No dates have been set. Wing SAREX/TRAEX dates – Nov, Jan, Mar, Jun, & Aug, Mission Staff School (date/location TBA) Feb Mission Air School (date/location TBA) APR Mission Ground School (date/location TBA) JUL FEMA Imaging Exercises JAN & JUL Constant Watch Communications Exercise APR NYW is trying to schedule these to avoid conflicts with other events.

Group Emergency Services 2/2 Additional Notes: - Group ESO went to TAK Squadron to give an ES presentation in early AUG. I would like to schedule these for each unit in the group. Commanders, please contact me to set up a date. - Training requests for mission numbers are available, requests must be sent to NYW through the group ES officer. If a unit wants to conduct training, please let me know and I will make arrangements to get a qualified evaluator for you! If you need equipment, supplies or trainers, we can make arraignments for that. We are in need of more qualified members. If you are interested in seeing what ES is all about, please feel free to stop out at a training exercise. REMEMBER GOAL - “WING WEST”

Group Emergency Services 2/2 SAREX AAR Continued: Very low turnout by qualified members, especially base staff. Base was understaffed, trained and trainee cadets handled most radio communications and MSA tasks. The cadets worked very hard and did an outstanding job! Upcoming Training events - 1. NER Aircrew school – Information sent to units. 2. 17-23 AUG., SARTAC Ground Team School. Hampton Bays NY. Application period open at www.nysartac.org 3. 12-14 SEPT. SARTAC Aircrew school, Rochester NY. Pending approval. 4. NYW SAREX. “Firewatch” exercise. Dates and details TBA. Special Emphasis: We need to increase our member participation in training exercises. Col Perta has made this an emphasis item. Funding is available, if we need assistance with local training, we can request it from NYW & FLG on an as available basis. The attendance at the SAREX last weekend was extremely low, especially on the Senior member side. This did have a negative impact on our ability to conduct training for ground team and base staff positions.

CADET PROGRAM NEWS • New CAPR 52-16 Cadet Program Management 19 June 2014 • New Requirements Summary: • Introduces the “Cadet Wingman Course,” wrapping the Curry’s introduction to CPP. • Requires cadet and composite squadrons to have at least two TLC graduates on their roster (1 April 2015). • Requires squadron meetings to fulfill the basic content requirements – 1.5 hrs leadership, 1.5 hrs aerospace, 1 hr fitness, 1 hr character per month (1September 2014). • Requires squadrons to match new cadets with mentors. • Mandates the use of promotion boards, at least administratively, but in-person boards where the cadet discusses the CAPF 50 are required only once per phase (1 September 2014). • Clears-up a previously ambiguous matter regarding activities outside the home unit; cadets will need unit, wing, and region approval, as the case may be, to participate outside the squadron (1 September 2014). • See last page of CAPR 52-16 for a full summary. • New CAPR 52-10 Cadet Protection Policy (CPP): • All cadet program leaders must be familiar with this new regulation. • Virginia Wing put together a good overview of the changes on their website at http://www.govirginiawingcap.com/overview-of-the-new-cadet-protection-policy/. • Educational posters are being sent to squadrons this summer. • Drafts of an updated CAPP 52-23 Cadet Protection Policy Implementation Guide are scheduled to be available soon. • Three new required training courses – Cadet Protection Basic Course, Cadet Protection Advanced Course, and the Cadet Wingman Course – will post to the Cadet Programs Proving Grounds and be fully available by September. Cadet Programs Report Card 4/4

Professional Development - The Western New York Group has received Wing approval to host and conduct a Corporate Learning Course (CLC) from 25-26 October, 2014. The Course will be held at the Chautauqua County/Jamestown Airport located at 3063 Airport Drive, Jamestown, NY. The CLC will run from 0800-1630 on Saturday, 25 October and from 0800-1400 on Sunday, 26 October. The School will conclude with a graduation ceremony held at 1400 on Sunday with guests welcomed to attend. Applications are due by 18 October 2014. - CAP REGULATION 35-5 11 AUGUST 2014 CORRECTED COPY INCLUDES CHANGE 1, 22 AUGUST 2014 Personnel Procedures CAP OFFICER AND NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTIONS

Aerospace Education 1/2 AEX Completion – Southtowns has completed and received award, WNY Group award report will be filed shortly (other units?). - NHQ added requirement - all units w/cadets conduct at least one AEX activity per quarter. This just leaves 2 activities and one 2 hour outside activity (Rocket launch, airport tour, etc) to fulfill the requirements for the award. STEM Kits – WNY Group STEM Kit AAR will be filed shortly, all units that received materials, please report on the usage to Lt Schmid. Southtowns has completed their second STEM kit, now looking at a third. Orientation Flights – Weather and pilot availability worked against us. However, we did close out the fiscal year with several flights, including some first flights. Funding expired on 14 SEP, new funding may be available in OCT.

Aerospace Education 2/2 Annual Reports and POA – NHQ has moved the due dates for the reports from the end of the calendar year to the end of the fiscal year. Commanders and AEO's have been sent the updated version of both forms. Suspense date for submission to NYW is 15 OCT 2014. Please cc Lt Schmid on both. WNY Group POA will include plans for all units with cadets to complete the AEX Program this coming fiscal year. This is one of the qualifying items for the Quality Cadet Unit Award. Request for assistance – Need SM to coordinate upcoming O-flights and group AE activities. Someone who would be willing to send out the emails to the units, collect replies and paperwork, take a bit of the workload. If any unit AEO is interested in moving up to group, please contact Lt Schmid.

Public Affairs/Recruiting • Past recruiting opportunities: • Air Force Week at the Naval and Military Park – POC is Connie PConniePrzepasniakConnie.przepasniak.ctr@ang.af.mil, 24-31 July (Concept is to have one day (Saturday) where we can engage the most people (26 July) • Erie County Fair – Sunday 10 August Paula and Dave have the 2 pm to 6 pm shift on Sunday 10 Aug - the shifts are first come first serve, but if we get a commitment for at least four (4) other people, we can get the entire day. Admission is free for CAP members that arrive before 4 pm. Parking is only $5 per vehicle.

Recruiting • 1. SET A GOAL • As a Unit, set a goal to recruit 2 new members per month • As a member, set a goal to talk to 2 new members per month. Share why YOU joined the CAP and how it has helped you or your child. 2. COMMUNICATE • Communicate with your new members about how they feel that they are progressing. • Talk to all senior members to see if they feel comfortable in their duty position or would like to try a new one. • Set up a meeting to listen to your cadets. Are they happy, would they like to do more? If so, what? 3. CREATE AN INTERNAL CONTEST • Share this new goal with your entire squadron • Discuss with your cadets the Recruiters ribbon and how they can help new cadets achieve their Curry Ribbon • For SM’s, post the monthly winner on your Facebook page or in a simple email to members of the Unit.

Recruiting 4. WORK WITH YOR PAO • If you don’t have one, find the most creative writer(s) in your unit. • Create a press release that announces your Unit to the area, what CAP is and what your Unit is doing in your community. • Include a photo with each press release to help grab reader attention • Local radio stations provide not-for-profit organizations a 30 second radio slot, once a month. 5. PLAN AN OPEN HOUSE • Plan activities for it (ie: ES, Cadet Programs, AE) • Encourage your audience to take part in them, answer questions or to provide feedback • Have photos on display of recent Unit activities • If your Unit is not large enough, pair up with another Unit 6. TALK TO TEACHERS ABOUT BECOMING AN AE MEMBER • Nationwide, we only did 200 TOP Flights for Teachers, last year • Teachers can use our free materials for the ACE program in their classrooms (K-6) • Students are more likely to want to join the CAP as soon as they turn 12 because they’ve already learned about us, heard about us and have experienced what we have to offer.

Unit Membership June 2014 Overall

NYWg Priorities? Now, a couple of items from the National Conference and Command Council Meeting recently held in Las Vegas;-On the CAP Website, "Ask the National Commander" is gone. Questions should be first referred to the local level and then upward through the Chain-of-Command. Members can also use the CAP national website on-line knowledgebase.-The National Commander is pushing for all CAP units to become involved in Wreaths Across America. This program is not only a fund raising opportunity for units, but is a wonderful program to honor those who have served, by placing wreaths at the graves of veterans. It has been suggested for units to reach out to and partner with veterans organizations such as VFW and American Legion posts.September 30th is the close of the fiscal year and financial reporting needs to be accomplished IAW CAPR 173 series regulations.Effective 1 September, the Wing Communications Section has rolled a new radio Call Sign Plan. The CAP 2015-16 Strategic Plan has been rolled out and Groups/Units will be receiving information regarding benchmarks and target goals to be attained.During the past couple of weeks, the New York Wing Pilot roster indicated that we have 79 Form 5 current CAP pilots. About 39 of those were Mission Pilots. We must strive to train all of our pilots towards becoming mission rated pilots. We must also make a final push to accomplish Orientation Flights for our cadets. Funded missions for FY14 cease on/about 15 September as the Fiscal Year closes out on the 30th.

One new cadet, three prospects, one cadet dropped, one cadet temporarily transferred to a unit in HI wing.

Unit Updates NY 173 (TAK) • Major Activities during the past 30 days • - 1 new cadet joined. 5 promotions • - New round of Rocketry classes and 10 cadets launched the first rocket, fizzy Flier and are preparing to launch the Goddard in a few weeks so as to move onto the Phase two. • Begun working on the Robotics STEM program and will begin building as teams, two robotic arms. • Major Activities Next 30 Days • Capt Brad Erckert is coordinating the scheduling a tour with a Hazmat unit in Buffalo. • - Group CyberPatriot update (next slide)

CyberPatriot Update NY 173 (TAK) • - Three teams now registered. One has 3 members and the other two have 4 (awaiting on several to finish the registration process). • Preparing to start full time training of CyberPatriot teams. Will be doing two or more online training sessions a week. Also looking to schedule a face to face with all teams before first round. • Would Jamestown/Dunkirk like me to swing down to talk to their cadets that have signed up and maybe even talk to the other cadets about the competition to see any more people would be interested? Would also like to talk to any seniors who may be interested in signing up as a mentor or Assistant. • - We are in need of a location for competition days – recommendations? • - Donations: Bill was able to secure 3 full machines from Rochester Hospital and will be set up for the competition and then be kept at the base for squadron and group use. • - Secured 5 laptops and 6 desktops with everything but monitors for the CyberPatriot teams. Installing Vista Business images and looking for anyone who may have RAM that is not needed to increase the performance of the computers for the competition days.

Unit Updates NY 343 (Senior Sq) • Major Activities during the past 30 days: • 3 Form 5s awaiting completion • 1 SM eligible for promotion to 1st Lt (paperwork is being completed) • 1 SM who completed level 1 and CC completed the online SLS course • Activities scheduled during the next 30 days:

Unit Updates NY 351 (Dunkirk) Activities during the past 30 days: 1. Hosted "Bob Evans" dinner social with 100% cadets attending and several senior members with families along with guests from the Southtowns squadron. 2. 100% of cadets have conducted their "O" flights, 3. 50% of cadets have attended encampment. 4. 100% of cadets have participated in ropes and rifles. Activities over The Next 30 days: 1. Cadets participating in Jamestown Community College (JCC)--Lucile Wright Museum six-week Saturday aero-mechanix course. 2. Examining the opportunity to visit the Cleveland aviation museum in December.

Unit Updates NY 402 (Jamestown) Activities during the past 30 days: • - O-flights: 15 for Jamestown; 2 for Dunkirk • - CoC - Congratulate 1st Lt Nathan Wright for taking the Command position • Many promotions for cadets • Most of my cadets are doing the EO • 2 attended Blue Beret • - 1 attended NESA (qualified in ES) • Activities next 30 days: • - Sept 31 supporting Apple Fest • EO SM Training • SAREX: 2 cadets and 1 SM • - Conducting survival classes, DDR, Aerospace Education • - 7 Cadets attending Aviation mechanic course thru LMW 4 October
