  1. Testicular Biopsy: Purpose, Procedure and Recovery A simple mention of the word biopsy scars individuals who become apprehensive about being diagnosed with cancer. Males should not fear going through the process of a Testicular Biopsy though. It is a diagnostic procedure to confirm a number of possibilities that may or may not have to do with malignancy. It is important to remain informed about it, however well before visiting the concerned facility for the biopsy. It will suffice to know that a minuscule amount of tissue will be extracted from your testes to be examined in a laboratory. Well, the testes are present within the scrotal sacs that hang beneath the penis. Individuals have two of them that are regarded to be a part of the male reproductive system. Purpose The patient may be asked to undergo testicular biopsy for a number of causes. Some of the most popular reasons to have the biopsy include the following:- Examination of a testicular lump and establishing its actual position along with the condition Extracting a sperm sample for conducting IVF especially when sperm is being produced and is available in the testes but is not found within the semen  

  2. Discovering the underlying causes of male infertility Finding whether low sperm levels are caused due to a physical blockage While the biopsy is thought to be a conclusive tool in detection of male infertility and ascertaining its causes, it is not the primary test for infertility. Instead, the individual would have the semen analysis done to check the quality of sperms. The fertility doctor would also run a host of blood and hormonal tests in order to find the causes of infertility. However, testicular biopsy is the only other way of finding the solution when the above mentioned methods do not offer any concrete conclusion. Testicular Biopsy Procedure   Two very different procedures are usually used for conducting the biopsy, namely:- Percutaneous Biopsy This procedure is done by pushing a thin needle into the skin and retrieving a tiny piece of tissue. The sample is collected in the syringe positioned at the end of the needle. Injury to the patient is minimal here as there are no stitches needed to close the wound. There is no visible injury either. You may also find the procedure described as ‘fine needle biopsy.’ The quantity of tissue may not always be enough for the diagnosis at times. Experts utilize a different technique in such cases that is actually a variant of the percutaneous biopsy. Here, the needle is a hollow and substantially bigger type of equipment that is used to collect a large specimen or a cylinder of cells from the testes. Surgical Biopsy Commonly referred to as open biopsy, this involves a surgical procedure. The surgeon cut through the skin and testes to reach inside and extract a small amount of tissue that is removed via the same opening. The resulting wound has to be closed with the help of sutures. The stitches need not be removed as they get absorbed into the skin. Recovery after Testicular Biopsy Complete recovery is essential to proceed with the treatment thereafter. However, the safety instructions and healing process vary in accordance with the type of procedure used for the biopsy. Patients are alerted about swelling of the area as well as discoloration of skin immediately after the process. Additionally, the individual may be uneasy and unable to concentrate on work for 1-2days. Your doctor would be sure to inform you of the expected side effects that are associated with surgery. Moreover, the patient may also experience a little bleeding after the procedure.
