Introduction Intestinal and luminal portozoa significant to human health include Entamoeba histolytica (Ameba); Balantidium coli (Ciliate); Isosporabelli (Sporozoa). 0.5-50% world wide , 1-3% in the USA. Infection is associated with poor hygiene . Humans are the princapal host; although dogs, cats and rodents may be infected.
Morphology and life cycle 1-Trophozoite 2- PreCyst 3- Cyst 4- Metacyst
Pathogenesis 1- Amoebic – dysentry. 2- Amebiasis. 3- Ameborma. 4- Amoebic hepatitis (liver abscesses). 5- Pulmonary amebiasis (Lung abscesses). 6- Brain abscesses. 7- Cutanneaus amebiasis. 8- Appendicitis.
Diagnosis Symptoms, history, epidemiology. Laboratory By: 1- Parasite is found in stoole (Trophozoite). 2- Serodiagnosis. 3- Cultiration of the organism. 4- Biopsy or Aspiration by: a – hemagglutination b – complement fixsation
Treatment 1- Metronidazole (flagyl) (3 times 3 mg/kg) every day mouth (5-10) days 2- emetin hydrochloride. Diodoquine. 3- Dehydrometin - dihydrochloride. After that Titracyclen Cycle (5 days). 4- Dilodohydroxy quine (650 mg 3times, 20 days).
