Who is eligible? Anyone above 16 years old that is capable of achieving the qualifications outlined in the Apprenticeship Framework and who is: Eligible to work in England Employed in a relevant job. Not already in full time education. National Apprenticeship Service
Costs Learning is fully funded for 16-18 year olds for the whole duration of their Apprenticeships if they are undertaking an Intermediate (Level 2) or Advanced (Level 3) Apprenticeship. If they are 19 or over then you pay a contribution to the costs. National Apprenticeship Service
Rising numbers of apprentices • 162,000 people started an Apprenticeship in 2001/02 • Over 500,000 people started an Apprenticeship in 2011/12
Who trains the Apprentices? The apprentice is jointly trained by yourself and an approved training provider, which may be one of the following: A private training company A college A charitable organisation A university National Apprenticeship Service
The Apprenticeship Programme Each level of Apprenticeship programme will include all of these components: Components of a framework Competence Certificate Functional Skills including Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills Knowledge (Technical Cert) Employment Rights and Responsibilities National Apprenticeship Service

Wages for Apprentices • The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices is £2.65 per hour, although most apprentices are paid more. • As skills develop employers are expected to increase the wage. In fact research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week. • The apprentice NMW applies to all 16 to 18 year olds. National Apprenticeship Service
IncentivesApprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) Targeted at employers 1000 employees and under Up to 10 grants available to an individual employer Employers who have not taken on an apprentice in the last year Apprentice have to be aged between 16 and 24 years old • Open to employers who would not of taken on an apprentice if not for the grant • The grant is for £1,500 paid by the training provider 13 weeks into the apprenticeship • It is the Providers responsibility to go through the detail of the eligibility of the AGE grant with the employer
