Why Banned in F451? • The demands made by every imaginable minority group • “No one wanted to offend, no one would accept being offended” • Books were “dumbed” down, became bland, “vanilla tapioca” • Effects of technology and pressuring tactics of minorities resorted to book burning Litcharts.org

Popular Banned Booksand Reasons Why • Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl- too depressing • Harriet the Spy- teaches children to lie, spy, talk back, and curse • Harry Potter books- promotes witchcraft, sets bad examples and are too dark • A Light in the Attic- an illustration that may encourage children to break dishes • To Kill a Mockingbird- profanity and racial slurs • Lord of the Flies- profanity, sexuality, racial slurs and excessive violence • Of Mice and Men-profanity, racial slurs and use of the Lord’s name in vain
