Objectives/Goals of the trip 1. Print out a Map of the Arboretum with the Zones 2. Hypothesis: make a prediction • Can you distinguish ecological conditions by measuring: Leaf surface area & Growth Habits measure (mm) Observations????? 3. Three leaf rubbings from three zones you might use • Genus & species named of your chosen plants • Pictures -Close up w/ your hand cradling the leaf -Overall Picture of the plant w/you standing next to it
Times & Departures • Morning Group: • Meet here (Rm 906) after 0 period (8:00 am) • Leave at 8:05 am • Arrive at arboretum approx. (8:30 am) • Leave at 11:00 am • Back at Troy approx. 11:20 • Go to your 4th period class starts at 11:26 am (no passes & not cleared)
Times & Departures • Afternoon Group: • Meet here (Rm 906) at (12:00 noon) • Leave at 12:05 pm • Arrive at arboretum approx. (12:30 am) • Leave at 2:45 pm • Back at Troy approx. 3:15 • If parents are picking you up, you must check out with me so I can account for you.
Requirements for Data Collection • Min. of 10 plants in three zones (total: 30 plants) • Min. of (3) rubbings from each of the three zones • Two photos for each of the 30 plants (tot: 60) • Close up w/hand cradling the leaf • Overall shot of the entire plant (you standing next to it) • Determine the genus & species name for all 30 plants • Leaf surface area determined for all plants • Three Zones need to be analyzed: • Mediteranean (California native) • Tropical • Temperate • Deciduous (leaves present????) • Desert (limited leaf rubbings)
