Basic Questions I need to ask myself • What is the subject of my message? • Who will be my audience? • What benefits will my audience get? • What goals am I pursuing? • What do I want to achieve with this media release? • What themes should my release highlight?
Key Concepts and Points for a Media Release • The Lead – crucial component. Summarise the main points in the first and second paragraph. Keep information interesting and pertinent. Include most important facts. • The Body – Think logically and expand the lead points. Keep it simple and concise. Don’t overload sentences. Include some quotes and don’t draw conclusions. Include a brief overview of me.
Keep local interests that are important to local people. Highlight the lead and headlines. Remember: Localized Releases Carry National Messages. So I must make sure that my message, my information gets to the right ears via a radio release. I am going to create a complete media release on a maiden speech given in the House of Representative by or newest member for Rockhampton Ms Heather Land MP.

MEDIA RELEASE Contact: Victor Land 888 High Street North Rockhampton 4701 email v.land@bigpond.com.au Rockhampton’s Newest MP makes her maiden speech in parliament today. A defender of the elderly. Land, V.W 10th April 2014 - Unheard of applause was heard throughout Federal Parliament today as Rockhampton’s newest member Ms Heather Land made her maiden speech. I have been chosen by the people of Capricornia to stand up for everybody no matter who they are or where they come from. I will represent all of you with honesty, humility and integrity she said today.
During her speech Ms Land focussed on important issues relevant to the local people of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas. Aged care in Capricornia is a disgrace and is a very important issue for local people as our towns and outlaying regions. We need a real alternative to nursing homes where the most respected members of our community can stay in their own homes and be kept safe and secure. I want nursing homes to be a last resort for our elderly and not the first. I look forward to implementing some new initiatives in this field. Education is going to be the key to success in our region. With our rapidly changing society and globalization education and training is paramount is our decision making for the sustainability of our future generations.
I want to see every student across our vast region should get the best schooling opportunities we can give them. From our kindergartens to our universities, from our big grammar schools in our cities to our tiny bush schools in our sparsely inhabited regions. I would like to see every student offered the best possible start in life and have the best opportunities offered by our great nation. Health is another great concern to me and we must endeavour to protect our great institution Medicare. We must protect the health of the weakest amongst us, that of the young, the infirmed and and the elderly. Those who cannot protect themselves. Lets not forget our great Prime Ministers of old, Ben Chifley who introduced the National Welfare fund in 1946 and Robert Menzies who supported the act where the most venerable amongst us would be protected for ever.
Ms Land went on to say that she is looking forward to representing the community in the best way and her door will always be open to serve everyone in her community. Ms Land can be contacted on her office phone number 555 444 9999. Victor Land On behalf of Heather Land
