Environmental Procedures Region 8 Sustainability & Environmental Management System Revised: Feb. 28, 2011 NOTES: (☼ Insert the entire procedure into the Statement or Scope of Work) 90-Day Storage Area: Old construction material being demoed may contain hazardous materials (e.g. dry wall: asbestos, paint: lead, electrical: PCB ballasts) Asbestos Management may only require Asbestos Awareness training. Infrastructure, non-surface features. Electrical projects outdoors may require excavations and therefore a dig permit. Pre-Demolition is conducted by the GSA PM, report of findings given to contractor. Facility Solid Waste Management pertains to the removal of trash from office areas. Roofing: Old roofing may contain asbestos and the flange or trim heavy metals.

Project Management & Green Purchasing GSA is looking for: Green preferred purchasing Biobased products Less toxic products (i.e., cleansers, paints, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, etc.) Equipment that uses less energy Avoid Ozone Depleting Chemicals Documentation and Records: Record keeping and Reporting Supply spec-sheets When green products are not available - Fill out a Waiver 15
Project Managers Work with Contractors • Interface with Contractors to ensure that SEMS procedures are understood and followed • Assist Contractors with compliance reporting
