Religious observance policy Guiding principles • IBM recognizes an employee's right to practice the religion of his/her choice. • The company is committed to making every reasonable effort to accommodate the religious needs of employees by approving religious leave. • Religious observance is very often taken as work / life leave. • Involves discussion between the employee and their manager. • A request may only be denied if granting the request would cause an undue hardship to the business operation. 3
Floating cultural holiday • Introduced in Australia about 5 years ago. • The Floating Cultural Holiday Policy gives an employee the option of taking days off that are of cultural significance to them by ‘trading’ official public holidays for a ‘cultural day’. • An employee can substitute the two ‘official’ Australian public holidays -- Queen’s Birthday and/or Labour Day holiday -- for a day or days that are of cultural significance to them. • The employee works a ‘normal’ day on the selected ‘official’ public holiday and receive their Floating Cultural Holiday in lieu of this. 4
