  3. 2006 US MSW Composition – 251 Million Tons (before recycling)

  4. Solid Waste - Local Challenge • NM municipal solid waste = 2 million tons • Albuquerque = 600,000 tons per year • or 1,655 tons per day

  10. Recycling Saves Resources According to Weyerhaeuser's Environmental Savings, recycling one ton of paper saves: • 17 trees • 6,953 gallons of water • 462.57 gallons of oil • 586.5 pounds of air pollution • 3.06 cubic yards of landfill space • 4,077.45 KWhr of energy
