  2. Overview • Background. • Status of experimental product. • Future direction of long fused text warnings. • Participants feed back on standardizing format style.

Background • Format originated and tested at WFO REV during 2008-2009. • Requirements of the new format. • Adhered to current directives. • Flexible enough to expand to other long fuse warnings. • Reduces workload for both forecasters and customers. • Effectively communicate the warning message. • Operational limitations of software. • Software configuration maintained at local WFO. • Ability to fall back to baseline software and old format. • Chose not to wait for next winter, since NPWs do not have an off season.

Expansion of Experimental Bulleted Product – Winter 2009/2010Test began December 8, 2009 • Went very smoothly for the number of participating WFOs (WR, CR, and 9 SR and 3 ER – complete list of 72 WFOs at end of the presentation). • Issues with current formatter. • How to handle combining bullets to deal with multiple hazards or warnings followed by watch. (It’s a complexity issue).

Initial Feed Back from Customers • Majority very positive – from web survey. • Couple of negative responses from those that liked lots of detail the old style paragraph product provided. • Media responses have all been positive - . • As designed, I am able to quickly find key points that I am looking for with just a quick glance. No longer do I have to scan down through multiple long paragraphs to find what I need.
