How to… Confirm Requirements Confirm your Requirements You only need to do this once. Your device will need to be running iOS v4.0 or newer. You can check the current version of iOS on your device in the Settings menu: 1 If your iOS version needs to be updated, you may need to sync your device with its home computer (iTunes).
How to… Install the OverDrive Media Console App 2 Install OverDrive Media Console app Open the app store (look for ) Search for “OverDrive Media Console”. Install it on your device. You only need to do this once.
How to… Install the OverDrive Media Console App Get an Apple ID If you have not downloaded anything from the Apple iTunes store or the App Store before, you will need to set up an Apple ID. This only needs to be done once, it is free, and it can be used for all future downloads from Apple. If you already have an Apple ID, you will need to put in your password.
How to… Authorize your device Why Do I Need To Do This? The library lends e-books with Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM). Digital Rights Management is sometimes referred to as "digital locks" because it is a way of restricting access to, or copying of, electronic files. Publishers require DRM on library e-books to prevent them from being copied endlessly. DRM is what makes library e-books expire at the end of their loan period. The type of DRM that is used on library items is called Adobe Digital Rights Management and it is managed using a free Adobe ID. 3 Authorize your device

Get to Know OverDrive’s Formats Text formats: E-audio formats: Adobe PDF/OPDF – Portable Document Format. A format that is familiar to most of us, used for screen-readable, printable documents with limited re-formatting. OverDrive PDFs include DRM. WMA – OverDrive’s version of the proprietary Windows Media Audio format. Only compatible with Windows devices, including Windows computers and the Microsoft Zune. Includes DRM. EPUB/OEPUB – Electronic Publication. A free, open e-book standard developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum. EPUB books’ text can be resized and reformatted. OverDrive EPUBs are the Adobe version and include DRM. MP3 – One of the web’s most popular audio formats. Compatible with most portable devices. MP3s take up more space than WMAs, but have similar audio quality. They have no DRM, meaning that can also be burned to a CD.
