Chemical Bonding and the Formation of Compounds By Linda Joiner Chemical Bond Definition: Chemical compounds are formed by the joining of two or more atoms. Ionic Bond Definition: Ionic Bonds form when electrons are transferred from one atom to another, forming charged Ions which are attracted to each other by Electrostatic Forces. Covalent Bond Definition: Covalent Bonds involve the sharing of electrons so that all atoms have 'full outer shells'.
Metals form Giant Metallic Lattices. These are composed of positive metal ions surrounded by a 'sea' of Delocalised Electrons. The metal ions are attracted to the negative electrons. Metallic bond Definition: Electronegativity is a measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons. Electronegativity Molecule Molecules are small particles that make up all living and non-living things. http://alevelnotes.com/Bonding/130 http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/chemical_bond.aspx http://www.ndt-ed.org/EducationResources/CommunityCollege/Materials/Structure/metallic.htm
