Junior Year Checklist • Maintain the best grades possible (college applications). • Get involved (leadership & community service). • Take the ASVAB in September. • Take the PSAT in October. • Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse (athletes only). • Explore college options (college visits, college rep meetings). • Register for 12th grade classes in March. • Take the ACT or SAT . • Fill out application for NHS in March. • Take AP exams in May. • Choose meaningful activities for the summer.
Graduation Requirements • English: 4 credits • Math: 4 credits • Science: 3 credits • Social Studies: 3 credits • Health: ½ credit • Physical Education: ½ credit • Business / Technology, Fine Arts, Foreign Language: 1 credit • Electives: 4 credits • TOTAL = 20 credits
Honors Diploma (may take regular or honors courses) • Must earn all but ONE of the following: • English: 4 credits • Math: 4 credits (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2) • Science: 4 credits (Chemistry, Physics) • Social Studies: 4 credits • Foreign Language: 3 credits (or 2 years of 2 different languages) • Fine Arts (art, music): 1 credit • Grade Point Average: 3.5+ (unweighted) • ACT or SAT: 27+ or 1210+

Physics • Extremely demanding academic class. • Heavy emphasis on math (must have completed Algebra 2). • Required mostly for students choosing to major in an engineering-related field. • Do NOT take Physics only to earn an Honors Diploma! • Grade distribution 1st semester 2012: • A’s = 10 • B’s = 23 • C’s = 17 • D’s = 10 • F’s = 3

Advanced Placement (AP) courses • AP courses are significantly more demanding (expectations, prep time & level of difficulty) and may require summer reading. • Students may be charged a course fee (non-refundable). • Students must pay the fee to take the exam. • Students are required to take the AP exam in May. • Students must sign and submit an AP Enrollment Agreement form (turn in with registration materials).
On-line courses • Elective courses • Student license fee = $150 • Lab fee = $50-$100 • May take on-line courses at school or at home • OLS = on-line courses at school • OLH = on-line courses at home • Application required

Alternative courses • Provide 4 extra courses as options in case of schedule conflicts.
Athletic Eligibility • Must pass 5 one credit classes per year. • Maintain a minimum 1.0 GPA. • Eligibility for fall sports determined 4th quarter of this year.
Drop / Add Policy • Students may only make schedule changes within the first five (5) days of the semester. • Students may not drop A-B courses without penalty after 1st semester unless the student earned an F for 1st semester (ex. Calculus A & B). • Students who drop A-B courses after 1st semester who earned a C or better will receive a WF (withdraw fail) for 2nd semester.
Scheduling Process • All registration sheets due April 3 to current English teacher. • April 8 & 9 = online course registration during English class.
