Prior to Course Selection • High School Counselors meet with 8th grade students. • (CMS Feb. 4th, GMS Feb 7th, CTMS Feb. 8th) • Program of Studies • Careful thought given to courses selected. • 4 Year plans with Middle school counselors on Choices. • Mustang Nation – Feb 11th 6:30-8:30. Students are ENCOURAGED to attend.

  3. What classes are required for 9th graders? • English • Math • Science • Social Studies • 3 additional classes (foreign language, fine arts, technology, electives, etc.

  4. English • English I • PAP English I • English I -ESL • Global Studies • PAP English I – 0130 A&B • AP Human Geography -0131 A&B

  5. Math • Algebra I • PAP Algebra I • Geometry • PAP Geometry Strong base in Algebra I is important to the student’s success in Geometry and Algebra II.

  6. Science • Biology • PAP Biology

  7. Social Studies • World Geography • PAP World Geography • AP Human Geography • Global Studies • PAP English I – 0130 A&B • AP Human Geography – 0131 A&B

  8. How to help your student decide on additional courses. • Consider your student’s interests/talents, study habits, post secondary plans/thoughts. • What’s a good choice for one student may not be a good choice for another student. • “STRETCH them out don’t STRESS them out.”

  9. Foreign Language • Strong base in the first year of language is important for success in future years. • Students must have at least 2 years of the SAME foreign language for recommended plan and 3 years for DAP.

  10. Physical Education1 credit required • Individual Sports • Team Sports • Foundations of PE • Walk, Jog, Run • PE Substitution

  11. Physical Education Substitutions • Athletics • Cheerleading -05501 A& B (First year counts as PE credit) • Drill Team-Jr. Varsity – 0536 A&B (Fall Semester only counts as PE credit) • Marching Band (Fall Semester only counts as PE)

  13. Electives & Additional classes required for graduation. • Electives – Consider the student’s interests/talents. • Health • Fine Art • Career & Technical Courses

  14. 26 State Credits Required • 7 classes x 4 years = 28 credits • Some students will earn high school credit in middle school. • Some students will earn local credits that DO NOT count towards graduation.  • Summer school could be an option.

  15. Skyward Family Access • On line course selection opens Jan. 28th & closes Feb. 25th. • Must use Student’s login/password • Full year courses need BOTH A & B • Semester long classes do not have A &B after course number. • Students need to have 7 periods each semester (14 entries).
