Meeting Purpose • Build a shared understanding of the vision for 5th Forum • Introduce major themes and topics • Clarify prep processes, structures and responsibilities • Explore ideas active engagement of all key stakeholders • Start the process of identifying the key dimensions to topics • Identify likely Theme Coordinators and Consortia • Develop action plans for preparing for January Meeting

Our Ambition for the Istanbul Forum The 5th Forum in Istanbul: • Is uniquely a multi-stakeholder platform and dialog for water • Is focussed on the critical issues in water today • Is focussed on the political dimensions of these issues • Engages stakeholders in a facilitated and meaningful dialog • Results in policy and political changes leading to problem resolution and meaningful change

  16. Regional processes • Build on existing processes in the regions to mobilize and commit stakeholders at all levels • Identify priority issues for the regions and promote the action required to solve them • Provide input to the political processes

  18. Basic principles for sessions • They should bridge divides between different positions / sectors • They should focus on practical issues, as a contribution to the MDGs • They should be the result of preparatory work to clarify positions
