Plans for Next Meeting (PPPL, Oct 2009) • PPPL, Oct 2009 following H-mode workshop • Joint with Pedestal Group • Desire narrow focus topics with full discussion • Address IO high priority topics • Finalize list of JEX/JACs for IEA meeting (Dec. 2009) • Look to close-out some present JEX • Ideas for new ones (pellet fueling) • Discuss topics for ITPA abstracts for IAEA, EPS, publications

High Priority Items and Work Plan Presented at IEA 2008 • Transport and confinement during transient phases • Develop models/scalings for ramp-up/down phases (OH, L-, H-) • Model benchmarking activity; finish 2009 (?) • Develop models of confinement transients during stationary phase (L-H, H-L, ITBs, etc) • TC-5, JT60U/JET closed out, modeling; 2009-2010 • Access to high confinement regimes during steady-state and ramp-up/down H, D, and DT phases (L-H) • TC-2: Hysteresis and access to H-mode with H~1; 2009-2010 • TC-3: Scaling of the low density limit to the H-mode threshold in H&D plasmas • Additional input from JET, AUG, C-Mode and TCV in 2009 • TC-4: Species dependence of L-H threshold • Additional input in 2009 (JET, NSTX, DIII-D, AUG, JT60U previous) • Multi-machine database

High Priority Items (cont’d) • Determination of ripple effects on ITER plasma performance and on fast particle confinement • The joint experiment on ITBs in JET and JT-60U (TP8.3) has been completed • Is this an area that needs to be emphasized more? • Who will commit to this? • Particle transport and fueling in ITER reference scenarios • Development and validation of models for pellet ablation and transport/loss: JEX to be proposed by Valovic in Fall 2009 • TC-11: He profiles and transport

Ideas for Topics for Fall 2009 Meeting • L-H (Joint with Pedestal) ~ 1 day • Wilson to provide list of theories for exptl checks • Momentum Database discussion (~1/2 day) • ITBs? • Formation requirements, time scales, collapse mechanisms • JEX close-outs (TC-5: QDB/QH? L-mode studies?) • Finalize 2010 JEX/JACs (~1/2 day)
