What is an allergen? • Allergen: a substance that causes an allergic reaction.
What are the most common food allergies? • The most common food allergies are milk , eggs, peanuts,tree nuts ,fish ,shellfish ,soy, and wheat.
symptoms • The most common symptoms of food allergies are tingling of itching in the mouth, hives itching or eczema, swelling of the lips and face and tongue and other parts of the body, wheezing, nasal congestion or troubled breathing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.
What is anaphylactic • Anaphylactic: a severe rapid and sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reaction to a substance (especially a vaccine or penicillin or shellfish or insect venom) to which the organism has become sensitized by previous exposure) • Their two types of anaphylactic shock non-allergic anaphylaxis and anaphylaxis.
How can an allergen lead to development of anaphylactic shock • Food sensitively usually is not so severe that anaphylaxis can occur through inhalation. A severe allergy to pollen, rag weed, or grass can indicate that an individual maybe susceptible to anaphylaxis or to oral allergy syndrome caused by eating certain plant-derived foods. This is due to close the relationship between proteins found in both the pollens and the foods.
