Hurricanes A hurricane starts over water. They form in warm water near the equator. A hurricane is a enormous storm. It moves across water and grow stronger over warm water, but get weaker if they move over cold water. A famous hurricane that caused massive destruction is Hurricane Katrina. It hit the state New Orleans in America. They are extremely dangerous.
Cyclones The main difference from a hurricane is the a cyclone spins in the same direction the earth is rotating. Cyclones in the southern hemisphere spin clockwise. Cyclones in the northern hemisphere spin anti-clockwise. In some areas they start as waves then turn into a cyclone. They do this in areas where it’s humid.
Tornados Tornadoes are a funnel like cloud that forms when a storm is happening. They can cause great damage. They are dark because they pick up dirt as they spin around. They have been known to lift up houses of the ground. The biggest tornadoes are almost 200 kilometres long. And the average is 50 metres across. United States and Australia gets the most tornadoes.
