  1. New ELICIT Software Platform Capabilities and Campaign 13th ICCRTS, I-079, June 2008 Mary Ruddy mary@parityinc.net Mark Nissen MNissen@nps.edu

  2. Overview • ELICIT Introduction • New Capabilities • Configurable Organizations • Agent-based processing • Experimentation Campaign

  3. ELICIT Introduction • ELICIT-Experimental Laboratory for Investigating Collaboration, Information-sharing, and Trust • Part of CCRP’s network-centric warfare initiative • Developing and testing principles of organization that transfer power and decision rights to the edge • Testing hypotheses through experiments • Facility was created to run experiments

  4. Experiment Task • Identify the who, what, where and when of an adversary attack • Task scenarios are anonymized • Participants are anonymized • Participants periodically receive factoids about the situation • No one person has all information • Task success requires communication • All communication via software

  5. Configurable Organizations • Original organization modeling • Motivation for enhancement • New flexible organization modeling

  6. Original Organization Modeling • Traditional Hierarchy • Edge

  7. Motivation for Enhancement • Execution flexibility – I don’t have 17 subjects today • Modeling hybrid organizations • Modeling participant organizations • Modeling availability of new capabilities

  10. Agent-Base Processing • Motivation for enhancement • New capability • Ongoing agent development

  11. Agent Motivation • Flexibility in staffing experiments (hybrid runs) • Ability to run many more experiments • Theories of behavior and performance could be validated by constructing agents with specific capabilities (personalities)

  12. New Agent Capability Initial Phase • Agent harness added • Stub reference agent created to validate harness Current Phase • Agent batch capability • Sense Making, moderately intelligent agent under development

  13. Sense Making Agent • Moderately intelligent • Is aware of aspects of the factoids that have been presented to it • Builds a mental model of what it knows • Models decision making and human errors • Supports some aspects of personas (around sharing, etc.)……. • Work is on going…
