Romans 12:9 – Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. The Greek word agape (love) seems to have been virtually a Christian invention – a new word for a new thing (apart from about twenty occurrences in the Greek version of the Old Testament, it is almost non-existent before the New Testament). Agape draws its meaning directly from the revelation of God in Christ. It is not a form of natural affection, however, intense, but a supernatural fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). It is a matter of will rather than feeling. --James Packer

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
The Law, or law, can not save or change us • Hebrews 7:18-19 – The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. • Hebrews 10:1-2 - The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 2 Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.

Romans 3: 10-18 There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Doctrine of Original Sin • Condition of radical corruption, or total depravity, is the fallen state known as original sin. • Does not refer to the first sin committed by Adam and Eve, but to the result of that first sin. • “…the idea of mankind’s basic goodness is a cardinal tenet of humanistic philosophy. It also pervades modern American evangelicalism if recent polls are at all accurate. In a Gallup Poll the overwhelming majority of professing evangelicals indicated their agreement with the proposition that people are “basically good”. – RC Sproll, What is Reformed Theology?
