IEEE-USA Organization IEEE-USAis an organizational unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. created in 1973 to support the career and public policy interests of IEEE's members in the United States. IEEE US Regional Structure • Each Region has a Regional Director, Regional Officers, and Committees • Regions may be broken into Areas and/or Councils
Southwest Area of Region 6 IEEE Area/Council Structure • Each Area or Council may have a Chair, other Officers, and Committees • Areas have one or more Sections and are owned by their Region • Councils have several Sections and are owned by those Sections

Southwest Area of Region 6 IEEE Student Branch Structure Univ. of California at San Diego IEEE Student Branch • Each Student Branch has a Branch Counselor (faculty advisor), a Chair, a set of Officers, and possibly Mentors • Student Branches may have one or more Technical Chapters which are called Student Branch Chapters and belong to the Branch
IEEE Affinity Groups • Affinity Groups are non-technical “chapters” belonging to a section. • Currently approved affinity groups are: • Life Members • Women In Engineering • Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) • Consultants Networks (AICN)
IEEE Division Structure • IEEE’s Technical Activities are divided into 10 Technical Divisions • Each Division has a Division Director and a Division PACE Coordinator • Each Division is made up of one or more Societies • Unlike Regions, Divisions do not have Committees, nor do they receive dues allocations. What is PACE? (Professional Activities Committees for Engineers) • A network of IEEE volunteers and committees organized at the section and chapter levels with support from Regions and IEEE-USA. • PACE promotes: • The professional interests of the U.S. members • The professional activities within sections of the region and student branches. • A mechanism for communication of members' views on their professional needs.

Government Activities Committee • Coordinates and encourages establishment of Government Activities and Legislative Advisory groups • Spearheads efforts to set up IEEE Legislative Committees • Provides existing literature/guidelines/examples to Legislative Committees • Assists political leaders in obtaining start-up funding
PACE Education Activities • Maintain informational contact with sources of professional development material • Work closely with PACE Chairs in planning programs for professional development • Develop, coordinate and present programs for professional development • Foster and encourage pre-college activities • Work with others to promote technical literacy • Encourage local IEEE volunteer involvement with teachers and school administrators
Student Professional Awareness • Promote student professional awareness by encouraging and promoting S-PACs (Student-Professional Awareness Conferences) and S-PAVes (Student-Professional Awareness Ventures) organized by and for IEEE Student members • Assist student organizers in S-PAC and S-PAVe planning and preparation • Approve and coordinate S-PAC support funds in some Regions
Technology Policy Programs • Foster and encourage technical policy activities • Presentations at Region/Section/Society meetings • Maintain/distribute current material • Coordinate requests for further information through IEEE-USA Office
Employment Assistance Programs • Foster and encourage employment assistance activities • Be sure members are aware of IEEE-USA programs for unemployed members while they are still employed • Plan/run Employment Assistance Workshops • Section/Society employment assistance • Literature/information on successful programs • Regional resource, employment assistance • Information on local conditions and IEEE response

PACE Project Forms • In order to receive funding for a PACE program, a PACE Project Request Form must be filed with your Regional/Divisional PACE Chair and the appropriate IEEE-USA Staff. • After the completion of the Project, a PACE Project Report Form must be filed with your Regional/Divisional PACE Chair and the appropriate IEEE-USA Staff. • Final funding payments cannot be made until the final report is received and approved.
