other issues • Other Issues • Conference paper accepted: • Our paper: “Rural Wings - supporting e-learning in remote areas by satellite technology” has been accepted for the E-Learn 07 conference in Quebec. • Strong EU-Policy toward sattelite based support for remote areas: • Viviane Reding, the EU's Telecoms Commissioner: "The new way the Commission proposes today to select mobile satellite services will give Europe's industry the necessary confidence to invest in new EU-wide services for citizens. It will also help bridge the digital divide by improving coverage in the EU's remote areas.“ Source 5
methods • B.2 Which methods will be used? • A triangulation of different usability evaluation methods will be used to take into account the desired information as well as the available resources (e.g. person-months). • Data collection was/will be integrated in different stages of development and implementation of the RW-platform: • Preparatory Expert Workshop (11/2006) • Heuristic Usability Evaluation @ prototype stage (4/2007) • Usability Testing through Coaching Method @ implementation and training sessions (5/2007) • Usability Assessment through online-Questionnaires @ a few months of usage (7/2007) 7
questionnaires • B.2.3 Method online-Questionnaires • [ongoing 04-11/2007 with Contributions] • A survey with online questionnaires will be conducted after a few months period of test run (08-11/2007). Questionnaires should differentiate the community-types and needs identified by the user needs analysis: • Rural Communities: Agriculture, Research, Education, Leisure, Municipality • Community Needs: Education/Learning, Connectivity, State/ Community Involvement, Business • Technical implementation and online-hosting will be organized by TUD, the questionnaires will be contributed by further partners (04-10/2007): • EA and UoA for the learning at school scenario, • INSEAD for the learning at work scenario, • BGU for learning at home scenario, • FORTH for learning at home scenarios (confrontation of emergency situations) • FORTHnet for learning at work scenarios (farmers training). • If necessary translation of final versions needs to be done by NCs. 8
network usage • B.2.4 Method Network Usage Evaluation • [starting 04/2007] • ASTRIUM will participate in tasks 7.1 and 7.2 as follows: • definition and implementation of a network usage evaluation methodology for Rural Wings networks • provide support to the NCs for the definition of telecom metrics to monitor and evaluate network usage and performance and for the usage data collection • evaluate terrestrial equipment capacities in terms of statistics collection 9
