Earth Treaty Proclamation • WHEREAS: On The first of August, sixteen hundred and ninety-six, an elder of Onondaga, a man of peace, convinced 2,000 Onondagas and 1000 Oneidas not to waste any lives in battle. It is DIPLOMACY, not battle that is the ideal of the Haudenosaunee people.
The Sky is Ablaze • WHEREAS: The Frontenac Journal recorded that he arrived on the first day of August and he ordered a fort built on the southern bank of Onondaga Lake. On the second day, the description of the southern sky the night before Frontenac’s descent upon Onondaga, it appeared to be that of red-orange fire in the sky.
The Messenger of Peace • WHEREAS: When Frontenac arrived on August 3, 1696, there was only a burned, abandoned village with one old man who was then burned alive. He pleaded and sent a message on the winds to the Seventh Generation. “Remember who you are and what has happened here today, because it will happen again in your generation”.
WHEREAS: When the Frontenac army arrived on the third of August, 1696, only the MESSENGER OF PEACE remained to martyr himself and leave a great message before he was killed; and WHEREAS: Today we recognize the work of the MESSENGER OF PEACE when he said to keep in mind the following three points: remember what happens here today…today is history, a prophecy that it will happen again…history repeats itself, and remember you are HAUDAUNUASUNEE...keep your cultural identity; THEREFORE, EARTH-TREATY PROJECT, under the leadership of Thomas P. Sullivan, hereby proclaims the first day of August, 2005 as WALK FOR PEACE DAY. WALK FOR PEACE DAY IN ONONDAGA COUNTY
