  3. Countries that share a border with Afghanistan… • Countries that share a border with Afghanistan include Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, and Pakistan.

  4. Hamid Karzai! • The current president of Afghanistan is Hamid Karzai. • He is the 12th president of Afghanistan, and he was first elected on 22 December, 2001.

  6. Languages! • Afghanistan has two official languages. • They are Dari and Pashto. • Due to the multiple ethnicities of Afghanistan, bi- and multi-lingualisim are common.

  7. Literacy Rates • The average literacy of the population is 28.1% • The percentage among women is 12.6% • The percentage among men is 43.1%

  11. Palao! • Palao is a popular dish in Afghanistan. • It is rice with meat and raisins.

  12. Let’s Make Opium! • Afghanistan is the world’s largest producer of opium. That is one way the Taliban is funded.

  13. Soviet Occupation • Afghanistan was occupied by the Soviets from 1979 to 1989.
