  2. Ash Wednesdaybegins 40 days of Lent (WielkiPost), a time of fasting, confession, praying and reflection on the past year. Meat is not eaten on Fridays, and every person, even children, are required to "give up" something for Lent, which could be sweets, movies, television or some other pleasure. On Ash WednesdayPolish go to churchwhereduringthe Mass ashes are received on the forehead from a priest who says, "Remember man, thou art dust and to dust thou shall return."  Ash Wednesday

  3. Palm Sundayis a Christian moveablefeast that always falls on the Sunday before EasterSunday. The feast commemorates an event mentioned by all four Canonical Gospels :the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his Passion. Palm Sunday

Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, and Thursday of Mysteries, is the Christian feast falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supperof Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the Canonical gospels. It is the fifth day of Holy Week, and is preceded by Holy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday. Maundythursday

Every Polish family visits a church with Święconka – abasket full of food products (a piece of bread, salt, sausage, eggs - usually painted etc). Especially children love it! The baskets are then blessed by a priest. Holy Saturday

  7. On Easter Sundaythe Resurrection of Jesus is celebrated. In the morning thewhole family gathers together to have the Easter breakfast. Polish share blessed eggs with the members of the family and wish each other good health and happiness.People eat the rest food blessed the day before. That day everyone should eat as much as he wants. For many of us it is a great possibility to spend more time with the family. EasterSunday

  8. Easter or Wet Monday is a holiday in Poland and is called in polish "Lany Poniedziałek" or „Śmigus- Dyngus". This is a wonderful day of fun. The ancient Polish tradition on Easter Monday, is celebrated by sprinkling each other with water. Especially kids have fun this day. Some people say that being splashed with water on Easter Monday will bring you good luck throughout the year. EasterMonday
