Is this still around? • Still around and being worked on • Non-Server • Focused on Microsoft products, but they do support Linux • Stripped down versions of Linux are showing up on many mobile devices • ArcPad 7.1 will have a Query Builder • Do actual queries and not just Find
Related tables can be queried AND edited in ArcPad 7.1 • Related tables go along with the checkout • ArcPad 7.1 will honor all geodatabase rules when something is checked out • They are releasing a Street Map Mobile SDK • Will add navigation to standard ArcPad applications • The US Census Bureau is using ArcPad for their collection efforts this go around
Collection Tips • Very important to have Averaging turned on when using GPS • Always face south when taking a GPS reading • Don’t collect data with less than 4 satellites available • Can use HDOP if you don’t care about elevation, otherwise use PDOP • Use vertex averaging for straight lines
Server Mobile • You have to have the Windows Mobile SDK loaded on the development machine along with the ArcGIS Server Mobile SDK if the end point is a windows device • Use the MapCache extractor to pull data across to the mobile device before going to the field • Mobile devices are kinda slow • Very important to dispose of memory objects • Multithreading is important • Keep track of the device state to inform the user
