  4. m.olemiss.edu – How? • Mobile Web layouts were designed around the WebKit technology supported by modern mobile devices. • Free WebKit style samples are easy to find. • Javascript determines user agent and redirects to full or mobile site. • Mobile device users have the option of choosing to view the full site.

  5. m.olemiss.edu - Content • UM Home – custom • News, blogs, calendar – mobility support in the product used (WordPress, Helios) • E-mail – a webmail interface with mobility support • myOleMiss Mobile – custom built on top of the SAP Enterprise Portal Platform • Directories and Campus Map– custom

  7. myOleMiss Mobile Current portal mobile offerings include: • Messages from the University community specifically for the user. • Frequently used student applications. • Employee payroll stub.

  8. myOleMiss Mobile Usage • More than 85,000 hits since October 2010 go-live • 9,848 unique visitors (9,453 students)

  9. myOleMiss Mobile – How? • Adjusted sign-in page based on user’s browser. • A custom desktop with a list of mobile ready applications based on user’s role. • Portal applications built using the model view controller (MVC) paradigm and they are made mobile-friendly by adjusting the view depending on the user's browser.

  10. In The Works • More myOleMiss Mobile applications: • Class roll lookup for faculty • Final grades view for students • Developing mobile Web content for more of our sites • Asset management support • Potential collaborative mobile native app project with SAP

Mobile Solution for Asset Management Support • A mobile solution to enable the auditing process in asset management. • Mobile application is being developed for a Motorola device to: • Call a Web service to pull info on devices to reconcile and populate local database. • Scan bar codes on devices to audit and reconcile. • Upload results of audit back into asset management in our ERP system.

Asset Management Solution Status • We chose the Motorola MC75 device as our platform for this and related applications. • The mobile application is being developed in .NET. • The Web services to export and import asset management data have been written. • Prototype application has been developed. • We plan to coordinate with functional users and plan to go-live in the near future.

  13. Native Apps • Ole Miss runs the SLCM module along with the other ERP modules from SAP. • SAP is interested in leveraging its recently acquired Sybase mobility platform to create mobile business content for the Higher Education Market. • Ole Miss and SAP are ironing out details to collaborate this summer on a project to generate native applications on mobile devices for higher education.
