  1. DIRECTIONS • Use this template to create your final presentation for EDU 696: Power of Place (Pedagogy) • Please feel free to adapt the template for your own purposes. • Using Power Point is not required, but creating a visual component of your presentation is a requirement. • These are guiding questions. DO NOT simply answer the questions written on each slide…. Put your responses into your own words.

  2. GUIDELINES • Each participant should give a brief 5-8minute overview of their work on the curricular unit thus far. Participants should use the Power Point template provided on the Power of Place website (or some other visual element they create), to structure their presentations. Everyone will receive both verbal and written feedback on their draft curricular units from their peers and the course instructors. • Length – • Individual presentations will be 5 – 8 minutes • Feedback after the presentations will be 10 minutes • Platform – • Power Point template (or other visual representation) • Please bring your presentations on a flash drive • Contents – Use the template in the following slides to drive the content that is included in your presentation.

  4. Summary of the Unit • Summarize the Topic of the Curricular Unit • What does the Curricular Unit Address? • What are the “Big Ideas” or “Essential Questions”?

  5. Personal Stake • Why did you choose this topic? • What about it resonates with you, motivates you, or excites you?

  6. Standards • Please list the standards that the unit will address… don’t worry about discussing them at length, just list them. • DC Content Standard: • Common Core State Standard for Literacy in History/Social Studies • Reading Standard (required): • Writing Standard (optional):

  7. Primary Sources • What fabulous historical sources will you use? • Give us a sample and say where they are located. • How do the sources help connect students to the power of place and the Civil War?

Delete if you don’t need this slide. • To insert a picture, either highlight the picture and copy/paste it into the slide OR right click on the picture and save it to a file on your computer. Then go to the top of the screen and click “Insert > Picture (second icon) > find the picture in the file where you saved it.

Methods of Inquiry • How will students interrogate the sources? • What historical and pedagogical methodologies will you use? • How will the methods help students think historically? • How will these methods help students learn to think critically and/or deeply analyze the source? • In what ways do these methods reflect a high caliber of rigor?

  12. Strategy • How will the curricular unit break into lesson plans? • Please include a brief outline…. No need to go into great detail at this point.

  13. Assessment • What assessment tool(s) have you chosen? • How do these match and reinforce the methods of inquiry and ideas that you’re trying to convey?

  14. Completion & Challenges • When will you complete the template? • Are you facing any immediate challenges that we can help you with?
