Basics… • Competition team size Maximum size: 18 students: no more than 8- fifth graders or 10- fourth graders • Our school’s team will consist of 20 students, two will be alternate team members. • There are 18 different events that the students compete in…students generally specialize in 2 events.

Proposed changes to our school’s team… • Teachers become team advisors/sponsors • Parents run the meetings, each parent makes a commitment, if their child makes the team, to run one event. • Students meet weekly from 2:30-4:00 p.m. to prepare for the competitions in the media center. • Each student has one event from Group A and one event from Group B. • Parents coach their events every other week. (Alternating Group A and Group B events)

Application and Try-outs • Applications: Send a request email with your name, student’s name and teacher’s name to mvso2014@gmail.com by Nov. 21st for application forms and a sample test to study for the try-outs. • Parent commitment, student commitment, teacher recommendation, no N’s in work/study habits or behavior, no C’s or 1’s on report card. • Students will take a comprehensive grade level science test from our county’s adopted science textbook.
Timeframe: • Nov. 22nd Commitment letters due. • Dec 3rd Comprehensive Tests given • Dec 6th Team List Posted • Dec 10th Orientation Meeting • Dec 13th Students’ and Parents’ event preferences due. • Jan 7th First Practice for Group A events • Jan. 14th First Practice for Group B events • Weekly practices on Tuesdays. Alternate Group A and Group every week .
Competition Dates • County Competition, March 1, 2014 @ Walton High School • State Competition , May 17, 2014 @ Kennesaw State University
