What is the role that your system plays in the human body? The muscular system is made for movement. It could be from something big like the muscles in your legs as you walk or from the contraction of a blood vessel in your brain. Without them, you wouldn’t be able to move anything in your body.
What are the major organs that make up the muscular system? There are just the three different types of tissues that make up different organs. The heart is made up of many tissues but one of the main tissues is the cardiac tissue which is a muscular tissue and then there is the skeletal tissue and smooth tissue. The skeletal tissue is connected to the bone. It’s the only type of tissue you actually can notice. The smooth muscle tissue is found in the digestive system in the stomach and intestines, blood vessels, bladder, airways and in the female uterus.
How do these organswork together? • Skeletal muscles: Are the muscles that you can see and notice. If you see a body builder what you are looking at is there skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is the 1 of the three muscles that you can control. Skeletal muscles come in pairs and are attached to the bone if you move the bone with one muscle the other muscle has the job to move it back. • Smooth muscles are mostly in your digestive system, blood vessels, bladder, airways and, in the female uterus. Smooth muscles can stretch for a long period of time. You do not have the ability to tell your smooth muscles to contract or relax. The nervous system does that automatically.
How do these organs work together? • Cardiac muscles are only found in the heart and have the ability to stretch for long periods of time like the smooth muscles and it can contract with the force of a skeletal muscle. you can also not control the cardiac muscle. The cardiac muscle is a very important muscle without it we would die.
Explain how your system is connected to two other body systems. The muscular system is connected to the circulatory system because the heart is mainly made of cardiac tissue and the heart is also a main organ for the circulatory system. The heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the organism. The muscular system is also connected to the skeletal system because the skeletal tissue is attached to the bones in your body which allows you to move your body. Skeletal tissue is a muscular tissue.
Name two common diseases or disorders that directly affect your system. Muscular Dystrophy When your body cells lack a certain type of protein, usually carried through family genes, your muscles become weaker. Most people lose ability to walk or to hold their head up. Treatments include physical therapy, drug therapy, and corrective surgery. Although there is no cure yet, research is still going on.
Name two common diseases or disorders that directly affect your system. Cardiomyopathy (KAR-de-o-mi-OP-ah-thee) Cardiomyopathy is a disease that occurs in the heart muscle. The heart muscle because enlarged and thicker or in some rare cases, the muscle tissue gets replaced with scar tissue. Sometimes the cause of this is unknown but sometimes things like pregnancy and too much use of alcohol over time. Doctors usually make lifestyle changes if not to serious but if it’s anything worse medication and surgery is then used.
How can you maintain a healthy system? Your muscular system needs regular maintenance to remain healthy and strong. Eating healthy foods help your muscles keep enough nutrients and energy so they can produce fuels to function properly and avoid tissue breakdown. Also regular physical activity maintains and builds up you muscle mass and strength.
Name and describe two professions that work with this system. Physical Therapist Physical therapists are people who help with people of all ages, which have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move their muscles and do activities in their daily lives. The hospital setting is the most common setting where physical therapists work, but within the hospital there are special areas for them to work.
Name and describe two professions that work with this system. Biomedical Engineers Biomedical engineers apply technology to healthcare. This includes researching, designing and developing medical products. One of the medical products they make is joint replacements or robotic surgical instruments which all effect the muscular system. Biomedical engineers work in offices, laboratories, workshops, clinics and hospitals.
FACTS • On average, about 40% of your body weight is in muscles. • Each muscle is hooked to at least two bones so when the muscles contract it cause movement. • Eye muscles move more than 100,000 times a day. • You have over 30 facial muscles which create looks like surprise, happiness, sadness and frowning. • If you hear someone say that they ‘pulled’ a muscle, they have torn a muscle. It’s the same thing when you tear a ligament or break a bone.
