How we work together in Grade 2 • How are the children grouped to ensure all needs are met? • How do we organise the day? • What does the timetable really mean? • How do we plan for Maths, Language and Unit of Inquiry?
Units of Inquiry • We have two units this term • Communication • Central Idea: • Relationships • Central Idea:
Reading • We will change the books throughout the week if they have been read at home or in the classroom • Please sign in the Reading Record if you listened to your child read. Write a comment about their reading or let your child write something about the story • We listen to children read individually, in groups, as a whole class • We visit the nursery class each week to read to the children
Spelling • Look • Say • Cover • Write • Check Weekly test on a Thursday of Grade 2 key words, words from Maths, English or our Unit of Inquiry, or words from children’s independent writing.
Expectations • Punctuality Please make sure your child gets to school on time. We will be in the classroom from 7.50 • Independence Please help your child to learn to organise themselves • Bed time Make sure they are getting enough sleep • Communication Please contact us if there are any problems or concerns Essential Agreements
Homework • Each Monday, your child will receive their weekly homework. • Please hand the homework in the following Monday • At this age, they do not need to spend any more than 20-30 minutes on their homework each night. This should also include reading • Reading is the most important thing. If your child is tired, please don’t push them to work. We will be very happy if they are reading aloud to someone each night
How Can You Help? • Provide your child with a good dictionary & thesaurus • Encourage independence • Work hard for 20 minutes and then stop. If the homework is not complete, do not worry.
