Helen ALFREDSSON • PERSONAL • Swedish sensation Helen Alfredsson started playing golf at the age of 11 in her home City of Gothenburg, Sweden. • Graduated from United States International University in San Diego in 1988 with a degree in International Business, Alfredsson also worked briefly as a model before turning her attentions to golf. • Married to Kent Nilsson, a former NHL Ice Hockey player, now coach. • AMATEUR • Represented Sweden in European Team Championship, European Junior Championship and World Team Championship. • Alfredsson was the Swedish national champion from 1981-84, in 1986 and 1988. • She won the 1984 Belgium Junior International Championship and finished third at the 1988 European Individual Championship. • CAREER HIGLIGHTS • First win as a professional came in 1990 Weetabix Women's British Open. • Played for Europe in nine Solheim Cup matches 1990/92/94/96/98/2000/2002/2007/2009 • Won 1992 LPGA Rookie of the Year. • Partnered Liselotte Neumann to victory in 1992 Sunrise Cup World Team Championship in Taiwan. • Produced albatross two at the 18th hole on her way to a third Hennessy Cup victory in 1994. • In 1993, became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the Nabisco Dinah Shore, one of the Tour’s four major championships. • Her second LPGA title was the 1994 PING/Welch's Championship. • In 1997 underwent hip surgery and missed early part of the season but later finished second in World Championship of Women's Golf, losing in playoff to Juli Inkster. • Inspired Europe to victory in 2000 Solheim Cup, winning two out of three points, including a vital 4&3 Singles triumph on Sunday against Beth Daniel. • Won the 2003 Longs Drugs Challenge on the LPGA Tour after five years without a win in America. • Selected as The 2007 European Solheim Cup captain at HalmstadGolfklubb in her native Sweden • Had a wonderful resurgence in her career in 2008, winning the Evian Masters, where she defeated Angela Park and Na YeonChoi in a threehole, sudden-death playoff; and the Grand China Air LPGA, where she crossed the $5 million mark in career earnings.
