  1. Sprouting Kids Consignment Details & Information

  2. Why did I decide to start my consignment business? • I have been consigning for 5 years • I found when you price the items right you can sell more and make more money than a yard sale • Mothers and grandparents love to get good buys (also some dads are getting on board. We had two dads consign with us thus far)

  3. Details of our upcoming sale! • When: September 19-21st 2013 • Location: Jewish Community Center 110 South Grand Ave, Poughkeepsie 12603 • Public Sale: Friday 10am-8pm Saturday 9am-1pm • Drop off hours Thursday Sept 19th 12-5pm • Pick up hours Saturday Sept 21st 4-5pm

  4. Why consign? • Extra cash • Remove items from your home that are not being used to reduce clutter • Eco-friendly • No yard sale prep • Prepping for consignment can be done a little at a time • No haggling prices • No need to attend the sale unless you choose to volunteer • Don’t have to rely on weather conditions • Any items you don’t want you can donate at the end and get a tax deduction • BEST thing is you have the first opportunity to shop for items before the public sale!

  5. How much can I make? • The normal split is 60% for the consignor and 40% for the owner • If you volunteer, you can make up to 5% more for each 4 hour shift that you volunteer until you hit 75% • You price your own items at 1/3 or ½ of the retail cost depending on condition of the item. At that rate you can make a couple hundred dollars with just a couple hours of prep work • There is also opportunity to make more than 75% if we need more volunteer time filled, you help distribute flyers or other types of PR type work

  6. How do I start? • You start by registering • By registering we can tell how many consignors we have and what items they are bringing so we can arrange them accordingly • With the registering system you as a consignor can check which of your items have been sold at the end of day 1 and day 2 of the sale • There is an $11 registration fee taken off the end of your total sales to cover costs for rental and advertisement

  7. How to organize your items • Start with clothing because that will probably be the bulk of what you consign and it is also the most time consuming • Separate them by gender and size • Put all items on WIRE hangers • Tagging 12 or less items at a time can help you stay organized!

  8. Pricing items • Group items together or in outfit sets • Think “what would I pay for this item if I was buying it?” • Price clothing at 25-33% of retail purchased value for most items. 50% of retail purchased value if item is in excellent condition, worn once or brand name • Price toys up to 33% of retail purchased value and up to 50% for brand names such as little tykes or leapster

  9. General pricing • Remember discount brands such as circo, faded glory, healthtex, jumping beans, sonoma or old navy are at the lower end of the price range. Middle range would be brands such as gap, calvinklein, lands end, nike and limited too. High price range brands would be hannaanderson, mini bodenand ralph lauren. • Most infant items need to be priced lower to sell. Why? Most women have baby showers and don’t need a lot of infant clothing making the demand less. Plus, the cheaper your item is priced the more likely it is to sell.

  10. Tips on how to price clothing: • Shirts $2-$7 • Sweaters $4-$9 • Skirts $3-$9 • Pants & Jeans $4-$8 • Dresses $5-$10 • Pjs $2-$5 • Jackets & Coats $5-$50 (Items such as north face and corky would have higher prices) • Costumes or dress up $5-$15

  11. Tips on how to price other items: • Strollers $15-$75 • Double strollers $20-$100 • Changing tables $20-$50 • Gliders or rockers $25-$75 • High chairs $15-$40 • Exersaucers $15-$25 • Bikes & Ride Ons $5-$50 • Books, DVD’s, CD’s $2-$7 (Group books together by age, reading level or author)

  12. Entering your items: • Pick a price (the cheaper you set the price the more likely it is to sell) • Put brand name on the first line • Mark down in the description if the item is new or a short description can help the tagging process • Pick a category • Pick a size

  13. How to tag: • All clothing items must be hung on wire hangers • The hanger should be faced in a question mark design (hook facing left) • Tags must be printed and tagged onto the clothing tag using a tag gun or safety pin • Tags for toys or other accessories may be attached using tape being sure the scanning section is clearly visible

  14. Tagging Services Don’t have the time to tag all of your items? No problem! We offer a low cost tagging service that is available for you! Free pick up, preparing of all your items and transportation to the sale! Just sit back and wait for your check to arrive! For more details about this service please contact us!

  15. What do I need to prepare my own items? • White cardstock paper 60 to 67. It can be purchased at staples for $9 for 250 sheets. That is enough paper to generate 1500 tags which will last you several sales • Wire hangers. You can purchase these through nortons supply 500 hangers costs $40. If you do not feel you need this many you can purchase hangers from us. Wire hangers allow us to fit more clothing on the racks, they slide easier and makes the clothing easier to view. (Plastic hangers are absolutely not allowed)

  16. Items needed continued… • Saftey pins to attach clothing such as pants to the hangers. You may also use safety pins to attach tags instead of using the tag gun. These can be purchased at the dollar store. Larger pins work best for jeans. • Ziplock bags, quart and gallon size to put accessories or shoes in. • Rubberbands for grouping items or hangers together • Tape, clear or blue painters tape. For non-clothing items you need to tape the tag wanting it to stick but not damage the item in the meantime. • Mr. Clean magic eraser works great for removing scuff marks on plastics, shoes and other items. The cleaner the item the more likely it will sell.

  17. Items we accept • Virtually any item newborn-college age that could be worn or used. • This includes clothing, baby items, bikes, ride-ons, room décor, toys, games, books, electronics, costumes, dress-up, baby equipment, personalized items, sporting and dance equipment etc. • If you are unsure about if we accept an item please contact us before inputting your item to sell.

  18. Items we do NOT accept • Diaper pails and potty chairs unless brand new • Breast pump accessories • Any clothing that is ripped, torn, faded, stained, missing a zipper or button. • Toys that are broken or missing pieces • Outdated items • Hair items unless brand new • Recalled items (check the recall website if you are unsure- www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prerel)
