Strictly Legs • People with leg ulcers can experience: • Reduced levels of mobility • Profound embarrassment • Intense feelings of social isolation • This can lead to • Increased healing time • Increased risk of depressive illness • Lack of concordance with treatment which in turn leads to increased care cost.
Strictly Legs • In 1995 Ellie Lindsay, a District Nurse from Suffolk established the first leg club in a community church hall.
Strictly Legs • Leg Clubs create a community based framework for holistic care promoting positive health beliefs through patient empowerment, peer example education and informed choice.
Strictly Legs • Members experience companionship, develop friendship and become once again fully integrated into their communities, thus now bringing new meaning to their lives.
Strictly Legs • Leg club staff work in a unique partnership with their members and local community. Working within best practise guidelines they provide a high standard of care in a social and friendly community.
Strictly Legs • During this time ulcers heal rapidly and remain healthy which highlights a reduction in the cost of treatment.
Strictly Legs • Members are given health advice on a range on conditions and District Nurses no longer have to use valuable time travelling between homes in a never ending cycle of treatment, recurrence and delayed healing.
