What is The PSG Function? • Identify existing electronic Data Collection Systems • Identify Best Practices • Create a clearinghouse for institutional knowledge • Become the repository of electronic development standards for future new data collection efforts
Initial Focus • Identify and promote data collection systems that consider the business constraints of industry. • What groups currently reporting electronically. • What is needed and how is it to be addressed? • Detailed end user requirements • Additional stakeholder involvement • What is commercially available? • Recommended standards – immediate needs – post season needs (economic, regulatory)
Survey Focus Does your department/center/region collect fishery dependent data electronically? If yes briefly describe the data collected and methodology(ies) used. Please indicate the point of data collection, i.e., harvest/vessel based, landings based, post-production based.
Survey Results • Eighteen selected Regional, Science Center, and FIN Managers. Received the initial survey distribution. Of these seven completed surveys with comments, and an additional five written freeform responses were received. The most common response underlines the opportunity for development process improvements to affect future development efforts, and a willingness to utilize commonly developed standards and tools.
Follow-up Plan • Review responses; look for additional contacts that might have been offered. • Build a new list of contact abased on geography and organization. For example, if we received no survey from the Seattle area NMFS offices, we should pursue contacts in that area. Once the “holes” in our survey coverage have been identified, assign an expert in that region to track down additional contacts. • Identify recipients post all of their answers. • Organize the information by geography and organization.
