Ouch!

1. Ouch! Hi Classmates! I’m so sorry not to be able to post my final database evaluation project this week due to inability to get anywhere! In lieu of posting the project, I’m posting the story of my accident for you. Joe is my hubby and Callia (5 ½) and Cooper (2 ½) are my two beautiful kiddos. I’m incredibly lucky to be as well off as I am today! Last Monday, we were hanging at the house playing outside in the ridiculously nice weather while Joe was doing some landscaping work with a track Bobcat. Cooper wanted to ride with Joe in the machine, so like a million times before, I walked over to hand him to Joe. As he got in the cab, his foot engaged the joystick control - in the meantime, I am standing directly in front of the track with the bucket behind me...yep, you can guess what happens next. The machine engages and makes a lovely crawl over my foot and about 3/4 of the way to my knee while I remain in a standing position. Joe wasn't able to see me at first or hear me over the noise of the machine since Cooper was in his line of vision - he didn't even realize for a few seconds that the machine was moving. In any case, my foot and ankle didn’t officially get diagnosed with broken bones yet, but it's fairly obvious that there are some pretty nasty issues. They aren't sure yet of what is damaged, although the doc assumes some tendon and ligament stuff and maybe some fractures that they won’t be able to see until a weight bearing x-ray can be done. It's been too swollen for them to really examine. And, the worst of it (absolutely amazingly) is a broken knee on the femur end of the bone. Better news - since the injury was caused by the force of the 7500 pound machine crawling up my leg, it's a pressure break and the pieces of bone stayed in place. I haven't had to have surgery and the hope is that I won't and the bone will just mend back together. I can't tell you how thankful I am that the injuries are so minor given the nature of what happened. I'm also so, so, so thankful that my kids are safe and sound. It's so horrifying to think of all the things that could have been - Calli was standing in the bucket of the machine when all this happened. I can't help but think that this happened for a reason and the reason was to give us all a newfound respect around this equipment and to remember exactly what it is made to do.
