Arguments for a more active involvement of the West: Continuous involvement of the Wider Black Sea region in the process of assuring democratic stability, economic sustainability and social progress in the Greater Middle East. Assuring an additional platform for the cooperation between USA and EU in a region with common interests. Strengthening the North-Atlantic Alliance capacity to be involved in operations outside the area (see the Great Middle East). Positive engagement of Russia, taking into account its legitimate interests of security, better fulfilled in the conditions of a stable and prosperous neighbourhood than through old zero-sum games. Encouraging a Black Sea regional identity as a valid partner for the West through wise EU-NATO-USA policies and coordinated actions. Calin Georgescu
