  3. Basic institutional data • The UA was created in 1979, but it comes from a long academic tradition in the Valencian region (University of Orihuela, 16th Century) • Enrolment: 35.000 students • International students: 1.400

  4. Student Mobility • Inbound mobility: 1400 international students • Origin: Europe (Erasmus programme), USA, Japan, Latin America, Middle East • Outbound mobility: About 500 students go abroad every year • Students are recruited with fairs, agreements, marketing, etc.

  5. Courses offered to promote internationalisation • Target groups: students, scholars, admin and technical staff • Language courses (“AULAS”) • English, French, German, Italian, Chinese • There are programmes in English • i.e. International Business Programme • Spanish language, as well as courses on Spanish Culture and Civilization • Centre for Oriental Studies • Chinese and Japanese language classes, plus studies on Asian Culture

  6. International services • Provided by the SRI – International Relation services: • Travel agency • Translation • Services for “Erasmus” students • AULAS (language classes) • Accommodation • Information for visitors • University shop

  7. Internationalisation strategy • Has been created recently • Focuses mostly on student mobility, does not take into account other activities taken place at the University related to internationalisation • Its development had been “ad hoc”, without formal procedures • Too early to evaluate its development
