Setting Goals • Related to FP mission and overall organizational goals • A collaborative process between employee and supervisor • Realistic and measurable • Subject to revision, depending on performance and organizational need • Considering resources in hand and needed to attain goals
Goals (continued) • Document the goals • Consider incentives • Include deadlines and milestones • Make it clear that the goals will be used to evaluate performance • Review the goals quarterly to make sure employee is on track and needed revisions are made before the annual evaluation
Nurturing Staff • Coach, don’t direct • Be accessible but don’t micromanage • Interact and give constructive feedback • Hold regular team meetings • Provide opportunities for professional development • Keep an open door • Provide information and updates about overall organizational goals and progress • Involve key team members in hiring and evaluation • Promote and provide salary increases
Evaluating Staff Performance • Formal, quarterly meetings to assess progress • Employ formal evaluation tools • Be flexible and make adjustments as needed • Respond formally to both strong and poor performances; document all • Promotions, rewards/ incentives • Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) • Termination
