Types of Fiction Genres • Realistic Fiction (could happen in real life) • Adventure (exciting, fast paced, suspense) • Sci Fi / Fantasy (may be set in the future or a make believe world, can’t happen in real life) • Mystery (problem to be solved, follow clues) • Mythology : stories based on gods and goddess’ from ancient times • Humorous (funny) • Horror (scary stories) • Historical fiction (set in the past)

Series books • Books with a continuing story…(to be continued in the next book) should be read in order (think Harry Potter books 1-7) OR • Several different books usually by the same author with the same characters or type of story (think Goosebumps books).
How do I find the type of book I want in the Library? • Look for the spine labels
Look it up • Look up the genre in the computer – search by genre and click on subject button • Look by author - the fiction section is in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. • Look in the computer by title or series name, find the author and follow the alphabet on the shelves.
