Action Summary : - Encouraging regional NAN and patients associations to improve their activities and relationships for a greater awareness and quality of life. - Getting in touch with some local health authorities ( Minister of Health of Libya, Medical Faculty Deans, Presidents of Patients Associations ( Arthritis, Behcet disease, R.T.A. Spine, etc…) - Translating into French BJD Press Release for publication - Promoting BJD aims through active participation in major Orthopaedic meetings worldwide : SICOT, AAOS, EFORT, PAOA, AOLF, SAFO … - Three interviews on T.V. and Radio about Osteoporosis and Back pain. - Holding yearly combined BJD booths during the National and Regional OrthopaedicandRheumatologicCongresses. Impact: Trying to raise awareness of the BJD issues and goals Future Development : - Regional studies on Osteoporosis, Low Back Pain, Road Traffic Injury and Arthritis are in process throughout North Africa. - But there is still a lack of financial support to achieve them. BJD GLOBAL NETWORK CONFERENCE October 23 – 24, 2009, WASHINGTON DC, USA Key patients group activities and outcome KEY PATIENTS GROUP ACTIVITIES AND OUTCOME - Episodic meetings between patients associations and practitioners Action in slow improvement, needing greater involvement of authorities - Raising better awareness, but funds ate still difficult to collect. KEY INTERACTIONS WITH ISC, OTHER NANS, REGIONAL GROUPS, GOVERNMENTS. - Two years ago, when I have chaired the Annual Orthopaedic Conference of SICOT in Marrakech, Morocco. I took then the initiative and the authorization to add the B.J.D. logo on the book cover of the scientific program. SICOT has made it now a rule for all its meetings. - Last year, the Libyan Minister of Health has promised to consider helping hosting a North African BJD meeting. KEY DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR 2010 : Project of organizing : 1/ Two days meeting including brain storming of the 5 Nan Coordinators evaluating the status of BJD themes in North Africa. 2/ Scientific presentations on the main BJD actions taken in the area.
